Subscription Update Obituary

Jerry Leon Whitten, age 66, of Scobey died Sunday, May 17, 2020 at his home.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Mortimer National Funeral Home in Grenada. Attendance of the visitation will be limited to small groups at a time due to Health Department restrictions in place. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 21st at Smith Cemetery at Rosebloom.

Jerry was born on October 23, 1953 in Grenada, Mississippi and was the son of the late Malcolm J. (Ted) Whitten and Gertrude Bratton Whitten.

Jerry was a farmer and was also employed by Johnny Green and by Lehman Roberts until his retirement. He attended Stonefield Church of God.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Pat Smith; two brother-in-laws, B.W. Smith and Charles (Bubba) Smith; and four brothers, Bobby Whitten, Billy Whitten, Roger Whitten and Frank Whitten.

He is survived by his wife, Annie (Ruthie) Whitten of Scobey; two daughters, Tansy Eggers (Cody) of Sunrise, Florida and Chantel Chism (Jeffery) of Oak Grove, Louisiana; two sons, Rusty James (Allison) of Ackerman and Curtis James (Jessica) of Spanaway, Washington; one sister, Betty Smith of Scobey; eight grandchildren, Savannah James, Karen James, Katie James, Julie James, Michael James, Zachary James, JJ. Chism and Jessie Chism; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mortimer National Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
