Funeral services for George Walton Brower, age 95, of Oxford and formerly of Coffeeville, are at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at the New Hope Baptist Church near Coffeeville. Burial will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church.
George passed away Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford.
He was born on December 18, 1923 in Coffeeville, Mississippi and was the son of the late Walton Brower and Kate Denley Brower.
George was a farmer and was also employed by Yalobusha County as an equipment operator until his retirement. He was a member the New Hope Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW. George was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded as a result of an enemy action on March 29, 1945 in the Sterkrade Area of Germany.
George was preceded in death by his parents, seven sisters, Mary Ellen, Earnestine, Birdie, Emma Lou, Cora Lee, Ruby and Mattie, and two brothers, Cecil and James.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Juanita Brower of Oxford; one daughter, Geneva Smith of Hernando; one son, Shelby Brower of Coffeeville; one sister, Christine Cole of North Carolina; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
