Graveside services for Douglas C. James, age 74, of Grenada, are at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Friendship Cemetery in Carroll County, Mississippi.
Visitation is Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Mortimer National Funeral Home in Grenada.
Doug died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital North Mississippi in Oxford.
Doug was often described as a big man with a big heart that would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
He was born on April 13, 1943 in Carroll County and was the son of the late Tom and Elizabeth Beck James.
Doug was a master plumber for 50 years. He owned and operated a small motel and also served as a Justice of the Peace at one time. Doug was a Baptist. He served in the 1st Infantry in the National Guard.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bobbie Ann Cohee James; and four brothers, Tom James, Bill James, Charles James, and Roy Beck James.
He is survived by one son, Chris James of Oakland; one daughter, Kimberly Ables and her husband, Steve, of Grenada; four sisters, Mary Carpenter of Vicksburg, and Marjorie Testa, Gloria Holly and Linda Wright, all of Grenada; one brother, Reuben James of Grenada; one granddaughter, Kaylee Ellison; two great-granddaughters, Chloe Ann Ellison and Madison Claire Ellison; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
