Funeral services for Ben Alton Harris, age 95, of Grenada, are at 1 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2017 at the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery in Grenada.
Visitation is Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mortimer National Funeral Home.
Ben died Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Grenada Living Center.
He was born on February 26, 1922 in Grenada, Mississippi and was the son of the late Ben Lee Harris and Annie Mae Tribble Harris.
Ben was employed by Tennison Brothers Inc. Sheet Metal Products in West Memphis, Arkansas as an accountant until his retirement. He was also the first paperboy for the Grenada Star. Ben was the oldest living member Central Baptist Church in Grenada. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served as a Pharmacist Mate during World War II. Ben loved fishing, studying his Bible and woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice Harris; one sister, Dorothy Lee Harris; and one brother, John Edward Harris.
Ben is survived by son, Jerry Lee Harris and his wife, Janet Sue Hinton Harris, of Scobey; one granddaughter, Debra Harris Franklin and her husband, Mike, of Grenada; and one great-granddaughter, Jamie Harris and her fiancée, Steven Conley.
