Archie T. Dewberry, 93, of Bartlett, Tennessee, formerly of Grenada, died Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford.
Archie was born April 13th, 1924 in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi; the son of Archie Franklin Dewberry and Minnie Hudgins Dewberry.
He served in the United States Army, “Patton’s 3rd Army, as a Technical Sergeant from 1943 to 1945. Mr. Dewberry was very proud to have served in the in the United States Army, in such an accomplished division. The United States 3rd Army was under leadership of General George S. Patton, Jr., best known for his leadership of the U.S. Third Army in France and Germany following the Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944; and the United States 3rd Army was the driving offensive force which led the Allied Forces to Victory in the Battle of the Bulge, the largest battle ever fought by the United States Army.
He went on to serve God the rest of his life as a minister and bishop for the Church of God.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Estelle Grissom, Gertrude Cook, and Altha Whittenberg; three brothers, Dalie Purvis Dewberry, Bradford Dewberry, and Noble Dewberry.
Survivors include: his wife, Vivigean Dewberry; two daughters, Cynthia Galey Strickland and Judith Dewberry both of Bartlett, Tennessee; three grandchildren, William Jason Galey of Brandon, Mississippi, Therese Bratkowsky (Jason) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Karen Irons (Dan) of Columbus, Ohio; four great grandchildren, Karinne Bratkowsky of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sarah Grace Galey of Clinton, Mississippi, Sean Bratkowsky of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Savannah Irons of Columbus, Ohio.
Visitation will be from Thursday, January 25th, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Mortimer National Funeral Home; immediately followed by funeral services beginning at 1:00 PM.
Interment will be in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery in Paynes, Mississippi.
